About
Sol is a transdisciplinary artist who moves between drawing, painting, photography, printmaking, and animation. Sol’s practice has turned toward writing and illustrating children’s books, where words and images meet to create new worlds.
Sol works as a children’s art teacher in Brooklyn. Being in creative collaboration with children is an essential part of their practice. Time with the kids turns into research about the kind of narratives and visual elements they are interested in, and the ease and creativity with which they engage in their own creative pursuits is an endless source of joy and inspiration.
Sol wants to present images and stories that allow the viewer a freedom of reading. Thematically, they are interested in transformation, visual manifestations of characters’ thoughts and feelings, moments of connection and discovery, immigration and the finding of new homes, and communication that transcends language.
Sol was born in Morelos, Mexico. They love birds, leaves, and light.
